My education

The title of Clinical Herbalist is one that many may not have heard of before, so naturally, people often have questions.  One of the first is how I became an herbalist.  Growing up in a time before the internet was popular I can honestly say that I did not even know such a career path existed.  I would say that my path began to slowly unwind over many years. I have a Bachelor's degree in Asian Studies and was a Korean linguist in the Army before I returned to Omaha in 2001.  I worked at the Nature Conservancy for almost a decade where my job allowed me to appreciate plants and their value from a far as office staff.  During that time I was an avid gardener and an urban homesteader.  I also became a Master Gardener with the state extension office which began to build my knowledge of botanical names and identification.

My desire to become an herbalist sprouted in me as I began to understnd the value of plants as medicine began when I studied with Nicholas Schnell RH (AHG) for 2 1/2 years in his 400 hour herbal program.  I became a Registered Herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild in 2015.  I feel that you are never truly done learning about herbs so I went on to study with, David Winston, who owns Herbalist and Alchemist.  I completed his 2 year 400 hour program and then continued for another year in his 60 hour advanced graduate program.

My experience with herbs also fed my desire to learn more about aromatherapy.  In 2015, I also became a Registered Aromatherapist after completing the Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy's certificate program and sitting for the ARC test.

Since finishing these extensive programs and other classes of more than 1000 hours of study  I began teaching Rosemary Gladstar's Science and Art of Herbalism program for those who are interested in beginning their herbal studies. Feel free to contact me for more information!
