Embracing Change

4/27/2015

As of May 1st I will be in my new space that is listed on my website www.landofmilkandhoneyherbs.com and I will be conducting business as I have been with appointments for consultations and pick-ups.

Beginning in June I will have open retail hours for people to come and pick up their refills, shop and buy herbal products on Monday and Fridays.  The overarching name of the location will be Omaha Whole Living where there will be a wide variety of mind, body, spirit related classes offered to the public from dance to how to use local produce to how to ferment and how to meditate. There will also be many handmade and local products by other local artisans. The website is Omaha Whole Living and I will be updating it over the next month as people sign up to teach classes and be OWL Retailers.

Since I am now in a public space things will change a bit as to how I am able to support customers.  Previously I considered anyone coming to my house to be a private client but once in a public space I can no longer do that. Benefits of being a general customer versus a client are dictated by my liability insurance and the changes will officially be announced and go into affect sometime around late May/early June.

Additionally:

  • Limited guidance on what herbs might be helpful (more info than a health food store but less than a private consultation)
  • Access to a new FB page I will be creating called Land of Milk and Honey Herbal Learning where I will share recipes, articles, and blog posts but not specific personal advice

The Value of Health

Putting a price on health can be very difficult. When we are in great health we think nothing of it and take it for granted.  When we are in very poor health we would pay anything to feel better and be healthy.  It is our human nature for many of us to put our health on the back burner until we get to a point that we can no longer.  What if there is a better way? What if you could have your health get a tune up before it is broken?  We take the time and money to tune up our cars if they aren't working optimally.  We take the time and money to tune up our computers if we think they have a virus or there is a bug we need fixed.  We invest in our careers and we invest in our children's education and our education.  But how much do we invest in our own health?  Why is it that we value our health so little that it is a struggle to take the time and money for ourselves?

Many people spend more in a month on a cup of coffee or a new shirt than their health.  I understand that many people spend a lot of money on health insurance and in their minds that is their "health budget."  But what is it that health insurance is insuring us from?   In all honesty, it seems to me, it only insures our illness and not our health.  It is "sick" care and not "health" care or it would put more stock in good nutrition, exercise and proactive health than reimbursing for tests and prescription medications.  For many it is mostly insuring us from catastrophic illnesses.  That is in my mind like waiting for your engine to blow a gasket before paying attention that the oil needs changed.

What if there is a better way!?  In my mind there is but many are simply removed from it in our busy lives that are often on autopilot.  If you are one those people who are ready to shift out of autopilot and think more proactively about your health I hope that you will stick around.  I will be sharing recipes, tips, and class offerings on this blog.  If you are want more immediate help with your health goals consider setting up a consultation with me. I'd be happy to help you on your journey towards a fuller life and better health.
