Immune Support Suggestions

Back in March, I sent out some suggestions for how to adjust to life during the pandemic. Click the button below for the continuation of this blog post and a reminder of these tips. You can also navigate through any of my other previous newsletters, now available as blog entries on my website.

At its simplest right now we need to do all those basic things that you have always known you should. You know, those things your mom told you to do!

Reduce sugar and alcohol, get good sleep, drink water, meditate, DO BREATH WORK to strengthen your lungs.  Treat your body as if you are preparing for the most fun challenge you can think of. Call it training for the Olympics to make your kids feel better. Make it a game and not a drag!

Active support tincture - $40

The "active" stock formula that I have created for people to use includes diaphoretic herbs to clear excess heat, herbs that thin mucus and encourage expectoration, and immune modulating herbs to decrease the inflammatory response throughout the body.

Proactive support tincture - $40

For those who would like to be more proactive with their immune system I have made a "proactive" support blend. That blend includes immune building herbs to strengthen the weiqi of the body and moderate the immune response. I am using herbs that have historically been used for this such as Astragalus (Huang Qi) and Elder, Cat's claw, Huang Qin (Chinese Skullcap), Reishi, Bupleurum, and Licorice.

Heart Season and Sleep Support

In the waning days of summer some of you may be experiencing some insomnia or restless mind?  From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective this is related to our shen. Our shen is one aspect of our energy related to our spirit and our conscious state of being.  It is the joining of the heart and the mind.  At night if your shen is at peace you will fall asleep easily.  For many, right now, that shen is disturbed which can lead to anxiety and insomnia.  There are a variety of things that can cause the shen to be disturbed such as high levels of stress or trauma. Let's be honest right now there is a lot of uncertainty in the world that is contributing to use feeling this way.  Summer as the season of the heart can also amplify any imbalance of the heart.  If you are stressed or agitated at the end of every summer it might be a sign that it is something we need to work on year-round to nourish you and build that energy.  For many people though they may just need short term support. Easy teas like Chamomile, Catnip, or Linden would be nice to try to add in the evening. Cooling drinks and foods throughout the day will also cool the body from its agitated state.

There here are a variety of ways we can support our shen through lifestyle changes, self-care, herbs and more.  If you are experienceing unsettled sleep, unsettled spirit, and unsettled emotions don't hesitate to make an appointment. In the meantime, for the month of August, I am offering a free calming, sleep blend for adults or children with any 4 oz custom refill or stock formula.  In the notes section of the appointment just let me know which one you'd like
